About

From South Carolina to New York and Back

In 2001, Matt Shelly left the College of Charleston and Trident Technical College to pursue his dream of making film and television, soon finding himself working on the set of major motion picture The Notebook. This entry point into the industry led him to New York for 15 years where he built a career as a Camera Operator, Director of Photography, and Director on shows like The Real Housewives franchise, Southern Charm, Top Chef, and The Real World, to name a few.

Matt's passion for creativity and constant pushing of boundaries on the shows he creates, combined with his easy-going nature make him well suited to the business. His shows require him to build creative narratives, make production decisions for how to convey those narratives in the most compelling ways, and establish strong connections with producers to efficiently set up scene work and interviews. Matt prides himself on pairing this vision with a strong technical expertise and is sure to always keep up with the newest developments in camera and lighting technology. Having operated his own company, Shelly Media, in NYC since 2013, he has since relocated back to Charleston with his family in 2018.
